Why online therapy?
I had an office for about 8 years but after the increase in rent prices, building foot traffic, loud hallways, road closures, lack of privacy, and lack of flexibility, I decided to move my practice to an online platform. As long as you have a video, microphone, safe place to meet, and you're in the states of Tennessee or Florida, we can meet! Worried you don't have the privacy at home to talk? Some of my clients will meet with me from their cars, offices, friend's home, etc. Others set up a noise machine outside their doors to mask sounds to offer a sonic privacy. Get creative! The flexibility and freedom of online therapy is exciting and can be so much more accessible than a brick-and-mortar office!
Can EMDR Therapy be done virtually?
Absolutely! In fact, I'd argue that it can be even more effective due to convenience, comfort, and accessibility. EMDR is, factually speaking, a type of exposure therapy. It is highly effective at reducing symptoms related to PTSD, trauma, anxiety, depression, etc, and it can also be intense. When done virtually, you get to do this incredible work surrounded by your comfort items and in your own person safe space. Because EMDR can be tiring, it is also very convenient to do this work from your home because when the session ends, you don't need to drive anywhere and can rest as needed. This is best done from a computer and not a phone due to the nature of the software used for online EMDR therapy. Don't just take my word for it!
